day 4 on the road…

by on Jun.05, 2009, under Cali or Bust!

Today has been a pretty good day. We have taken it kind of slow today, about 450 miles or so.

We left our hotel in Santa Rosa around 9am and headed for Arizona.

Here is what it looked like outside of the hotel.

We stopped somewhere in New Mexico for lunch at a Sonic off of Route 66… It was there that I met my first crazy desert guy :) Apparently according to him, they travel in packs and nutrition is a problem for them… and so are the cops apparently; they dumped him on the side of the road six mountains from his home….???? Anyway, it was nice to sit outside at sonic and stare at the view and all of the hustle and bustle of traffic on historical route 66.

This is from the parking lot of Sonic.. As you can see if you zoom in on the picture to the right.. Their Wendy’s has wings!!!! *the desert guy came walking down the hillside to the right :P *

We stopped at the Arizona state line to check out some of the Navajo Indian stores.. There was an awesome mountain sitting above the shops with a giant hole in it.. It looked pretty awesome!

We made it to The Petrified Forest around 5 o’clock and drove through it taking millions of pictures.. It wasn’t my cup of tea really, but I’m glad I went :)

After leaving the forest and almost running out of gas.. We were then stuck on camping or getting a hotel room..  That’s when we passed the wigwams!!!!  Unfortunately they had no vacancy… :( I was very upset.. But at least I got to see a wigwam hotel.. That was pretty awesome!!!

We finally stopped for the night at what we thought was a Comfort Inn, but was actually turned into an Adobe Inn.  Of course the hot tub and pool had to be broken upon my arrival, but that’s ok!!!

I guess we are leaving early tomorrow for the Meteor Crater, Grand Canyon, The firefighter museum, and heading towards California!!!!

Keep leaving comments!!!!

I can’t believe that ya’ll don’t believe that I saw a kangaroo!!!!! My feelins are hurt!

G’night!

Great pics ! I am as disappointed as you about the wigwam hotel, not to mention the pool and jacuzzi :-(

That’s a pretty funky looking mountain. Looks like someone started to put a tunnel through it and decided it was too much like work ! LOL

Funky dead animals and cops dropping people six mountains from home. Your trip is interesting to say the least.

Keep the pics and commentaries coming and stay safe.

    Love and prayers,

OMGosh, you met your “FIRST crazy desert guy!” Let’s hope you don’t meet any “packs” of crazy guys! LOL Love the WigWam Motel! I wish you could have stayed there a night, maybe a reservation for on the way back? If you choose to come back the same route. Great pictures too! Oh, as I write this, I can see (through Tracking) you are almost to California! Fantastic! Can’t wait until the next report, esp. about the Grand Canyon. Have fun and be careful. Love and <<<>>>, Mom

Hey girl, checkin in on ya again. We are still tracking you and are totally addicted! We get on here every few hours to see how far you’ve made it. I’m not all that good with maps but it looked like you missed the turn for the Grand Canyon. What’s up with that? lol. Anyway, the babies are fine. Sylvia cracks us up, she’s a freakin NUT! And the other 2, well they’re just PIGS lol, gonna have to buy them some more food this weekend…. Ashley checked your house the other day and fed the other babies. So all is well back here.

Hugs and Kisses to ya both and we can’t wait for your next update….

P.S. Wonder if that crazy guy had been abducted by aliens and then dropped back off? You know that shit happens out there! LMAO

P.S.S. Maybe that’s how the kangaroo got there!

I am enjoying everything you post, and I am glad you two have had little trouble on the road and stayed safe. The blog for the trip is a great idea, and eases a lot of concerned minds.

May Good luck smile upon you all & keep your bikes whole & running well.

What was the trip due north all about ??? Must have been something special to see there.

We will be leaving for NC Sunday morning and won’t be able to check on you for a while. Will try to reach you by phone later in the day while there. Will probably be back on Wednesday.

You two keep having fun and stay safe. Miss ya !

    Love and prayers,
