day seven on the road..
by Sarah on Jun.08, 2009, under Cali or Bust!
Today has been another long day, longer then we had planned on. We left California City around 10am and headed towards Highway 1.
Today has been another COOOOOLD windy day.. I thought California was supposed to be hot!!! On the way to the coast, the ride was mostly four lane highway until we started crossing over mountains.. It was really cool when we came over the last mountain and you could see the ocean for the first time!!! I was about to bounce off of my bike I was so excited!!!
We stopped in a little town called Cambria for some pizza at Woodies. It was the best pizza I have ever had I do believe! The crust was homemade and the pepperonis were huge!!! (not to mention the price wasn’t bad at all for a touristy part of town!)
Some advice to anyone wanting to travel highway 1.. Fill up as soon as you can! we went over 100 miles before we could find a gas station and that one was out of gas!!!! We have decided that highway one is not much fun… It could be better if there were no one in front of you and the roads were a bit smoother. We got stuck behind a lot of traffic going about 10 mph on that curvy windy road! The scenery is beautiful, I just wish there would have been more than one beach at the beginning and the end of Highway 1 with beach access.
I almost forgot to mention that we saw some zebras hanging out with some cows today.. I took a picture so you guys would believe me this time!!!!
Rick and I decided to camp tonight at a KOA in Santa Cruz, Ca. It’s pretty fancy!! We have wireless and electric and water.. Across from us are some really cute cabin looking things.. We are thinking about staying another night here tomorrow too, I guess we will decide as we go! here is our little camp site (and the cute little cabin thing across from us)!
Guess we are heading to bed!!! More tomorrow of the beach and what not!!!!
Keep the comments coming!!!

The following words come to mind: Awesome, Spectacular, Amazing, Fantastic, & Yummy (pizza)! Zebras and cows…whoa, those California folks sure do know how to spice up their “herds!” LOL The ocean and scenery are beautiful. What a clean camp ground and how cute are those cabins?! Get some well-deserved rest you two and enjoy being tourists! Ride safe, Love, Mom

Zebras? Kangaroos? You sure you guys didn’t make a wrong turn somewhere? Maybe took a little boat ride? I still can’t believe you guys pulled this off!!!! If Highway 1 is a disappoointment don’t tell me about it cause it would ruin one of my fantasies. Be carefull in Cal. lots of wierd folks out there. Will you come back the same route or on the Northern half? I know it’s a cliche but remember- it’s not the destination, it’s the journey!!!

Hey Tonya! The pizza was great, I keep telling rick I want to go back 200 miles to eat there again!! LOL Highway 1 isn’t a disappointment, just a little uncomfortable on the motorcycle after 3000+ miles on it already
We aren’t coming back the same way, were going to go up towards South Dakota on the way back! Thanks for commenting!!! Hey to Tony too!!! I might try to call y’all later when I get a better signal on the phone!
Hey mom!

LOL…I just wrote ya a book and it didn’t post. I don’t know what happened. I’ll try it agin, it went something like this…..LOL.
We love and miss you guys. I am so glad you posted pics of the zebras b/c that’s one of those stories I would Not have believed either LOL. And thank God you made it safely and have decided to stay for a few days and rest. The bikes probably need a rest too and ya might wanna think about getting them serviced b4 you guys head back, considering the miles you’ve put on them and the little bit of trouble you had out of yours the other day. In case your wondering about the babies, THEY ARE FINE! I’m gonna take some pics of’em today and put them on my myspace for ya. I know you miss them terribly. I talked to Ashley a few mins ago, she fed the other babies on Sat. I was gonna get the key from her, go feed them and check the house today on my way to Danville but she said she’s goin back later on this evening to do it. So we made plans to meet up on Wed for me to get the keys and take over. She has surgery on Thurs. Keep you fingers crossed for Ash….Anyway all is fine here and my whole crew including mom and dad said to tell ya HI!
Keep givin us updates, we can’t wait for’em.
Lovin all the pics, so keep them coming too.
Take one of Rick in a thong when u guys visit the beach, I’m sure everybody would love to see that!
* Hugs and kisses to ya both *
Call me b4 you start back on the big road.

Well, here comes another comment…I guess I’m in a talkative/typing mood, or it could be that I just miss ya LOL…
Anyway, something I been wanting to tell ya ever since you planned this big adventure was that “back in the day” when I was in high school, me and my BFF (at the time) had planned a our own trip to Cali. We were gonna head out just after graduation……We had it planned down to the mile and the minute lol, every detail, every stop, we were taking my little Geo Metro LOL, gas was not gonna be a problem at all hehehe, we talked about it daily, I think half the school new about it……….Well, something happened and we never went *sighs*. We never even packed the first piece of clothing. I can’t even remember what happened, I guess “LIFE” happened……So, here it is, 16yrs later and I’m married, I’m a mom, with loads and loads of LIFE and RESPONSIBLITIES LOL, and I just wanted to say that not only are YOU living out your dream but you are living out MY dream as well….
I fell like I been riding with ya all the way.
And I’m willing to bet that I’m not the only one that’s been riding with ya too……….
LOVE YOU

I wish this thing had spell check lol b/c I just noticed that I mispelled a few words in my earlier comments and it’s driving me crazy! Anyway, I just got on real quick to tell ya to check out the new pics that I put on my myspace for ya. Your babies have their own album LOL.

It is too bad that you can’t take a picture of the smell of the Pacific Ocean and post it.
Try the seafood somewhere along the way. It should be better & less expensive along the coast, but that cheaper part might not be true with Cali’s big population to feed.
You all have worked your buns off getting there so quickly. Relax, enjoy, check your bikes, & rest up for the return trip.
May the Lord keep you all safe & happy;”Via con Dios”.

P.S. I would not have believed the Zebras if you hadn’t taken a pic’ of ‘em. I wonder who owns that farm, & whether the zebras are raised for a specific purpose. I had heard that zebras in Africa were getting kind of rare because people have to eat, and people in other countries are raising them to preserve the species.
